I found a great looking page called 60 Excellent Free 3D Models Websites. It can be true that you get what you pay for, and it can also be true that you don't have time to create exactly what you need. Free models are good for doing tests and starting to block things out.
One thing that I get asked from time to time is how to get a .3DS file into Maya. There's two ways that I know how to do this:
- Use the 3DS Importer supplied with the Bonus Tools
- Use the standalone FBX converter.
