I'm happy to share with you that we have set up the Small Annoying Things to fix forum for Maya. The idea is that you can enter something that you would like to see fixed. It's open to the entire community and everyone can vote. We'll be watching to see what items make it to the top of the list (based on your votes).
Some items might actually be big items to fix and we can move them to the Ideas for Maya forum. We've had a bunch of people already start on entering items and voting so we know the system is working. Now we just need you to participate. If you feel strongly about your idea, there are buttons to share it to Facebook and Twitter.
When entering ideas, please try to be precise (avoid using words like etc.) and make sure that each idea is separate - do not put two or more ideas into the same entry. If you do, we'll need to send it back to you for clarification.
Happy Voting!

One problem I have with it though.. A user has 20 votes per forum and there are 2 forums so far, but new ideas cost them votes as well, hmm, ok fair enough... But I can basically do 40 things on the site then I'm done.. After that it's just move votes around or wait for the next round which could be what..... months?
It feels like a forum that you can kind of interact with but very limited (40 times).. Then it becomes pointless... I will forget about the site.. it will fade away into the depth of internet oblivion.
I'm not trying to be a downer but there needs to be something to bring me back to the site after 40 actions, no?
Please correct me if I'm wrong...

Hopefully some good ideas/fixes emerge (already some good stuff there).
Thanks.

And I agree with Wolverine. How long is the recycle? These type sof sites tend to work well because of turn-around.
If these votes are fire and forget for 1 - 1.5 years, I am not sure it would be much better than just having a proper feedback forum.
Cheers.

I've put my 40 cents.
I think proposals should not cost votes though.

Regarding keeping people engaged in this throughout the year, we're open to feedback on what can help. We are trying to find the top items for the year so there is a risk that things go quiet for a while.

Perhaps I shouldn't be venturing where elephants play. F1 help has gaps in it. Maya Forum (once you find it) gives the impression it is run by some over qualified ex public service type.
I like Maya but it's official support sucks.

Bump Mapping: If I want to change the bump depth, I can either bang my head for hours trying to find the control with the interface, or I can track it down through the hypershade interface (and I am not a fan of that because that method is equally byzantine). Why not have the same tab in the attribute editor as soon as I click on the bump-map file? You know: where it would be easy to find.
Next one is entirely my short-coming: I have a twitch, so that occasionally while I am holding down the left button, I also click the right. Not a big deal in any other program, but with Maya, the Outliner turns blank, if I select any other object, the attribute editor and key-frame sections are blank, and effectively I can do nothing. The only solution I have found is to save the file, close down the program, and start it up again. Is there a reason for this "feature"? Is there a way to escape it without the full shut-down/restart?
What purpose do the 2 and 3 serve in the interface? I know that they make a piece of geometry more rounded, and discovered (after much avoidable reconstruction) that pressing 1 turns the effect off. I was just wondering what purpose they could possibly have ever served--how could that ever have been useful?

Additionally, the lack of in-depth python examples on complex problems does not help much. I sometimes have to find "mel" code in the mel docs and re-implement that code in python. This is because much of the python examples are very basic... They only show use cases for maybe 2 or 3 of the flags. For the more complex flags its sometimes hard to infer from what the docs are saying to how to implement that code.
Thats my rant.

Point being, it would be nice to get a patch once a month for the entire Maya community (regardless if you have Subscription Advantage or not). I believe the Subscription Advantage users should be entitled to even faster support / fixes. Many annoying bugs are patched but only ever patched in say a Service Pack. The release schedule appears to be more like every 6 months. In that time, it becomes very frustrating to deal with work-arounds and bugs. Especially when Maya Saving is broken (e.g. Maya 2011 had an ASCII save bug).
In general, by the time a Service Pack is released, a new version of maya is on its way. Once that new version is out, then all service packs (unless critical) seem to stop on older versions. So what you get is 80% of the bugs fixed in say 2012. Then 2013 comes out and you start back a square one with a host of new issues to work-around.
People like stable and reliable software, if features need to be dropped because of it. I would much rather a rock-solid piece of software than a new 20 new buttons to press.

1) Sometimes a project comes up, and I have to turn it down because I don't want to pay for an older version of maya or better yet the newest version.
2) Transferring that fee to the client is a bad idea in some instances. I have done it in the past, but in recent years its getting harder and harder.

Im using the trial version for testing without any upgrading.
The imageplane becomes a transfom group with contraint attached
Any work that was created in 2012 with the imageplane will become like
this.
This problem had been happening since the first launch of maya 2013
I had been waiting for this fix but it seems to be leftout in sp1 and sp2
Why does the imageplane become a transform group with contraint?
What and where is the fault here? Is there any solution?
This never happened to me since I had been using maya 4.5
Also when you extrude, there is marquee option for you to toggle keep face
together when you extrude faces in 2012 (ctrl+shift)
Now there aren't any. Did Autodesk changed this?
I don't mind all other side bugs but it is getting worse, problems like this can hinder from getting any work done.
If there are no solution, then maybe I should switch to another 3d
software.
I don't think I want to upgrade or purchase if Maya still is, imperfect.
Any work done in Maya 2013 is backward incompatible to older version.

For this reason, I have to save a different scene file for every render layer when I need to change that layer object materials, just in case.
This already happened with 2011 version, and I think is a really serious bug.

I am having an issue with nHair follicles. I set up a system where main dynamic behavior is driven by a nucleus managed hairSystem. But I need to override some of the parameters in several follicles, mainly the startCurveAttract and stiffness. This is not working...

2. I think that it would be better if there are more type of deformers...
3. Maya fluids are too slow and heavy, but may be it's normal. It will be great if there is possibilities to create custom fluid voxel grid /generated by an object/. Also... I don't know if there is approach to retime fluid simulation. For example if we want to watch explosion on slow motion speed. ... and to integrate an opportunity to deform the fluid.

What bugs me about maya? bugs. duh!
I think my #1 issue is support/subscription costs.. it is honestly the ONE primary hesitation I and others have with upselling to purchase. It has not changed in since I started using Alias back in late 90's.. seriously, there must be a more affordable way to offer all customers product/bug resolution.
I would also like to see more emphasis and integration for actual "game developers/studios".. the entertainment suite now comes with Turtle.. which is a freakn' awesome step in the right direction. BUT why not the gameware innovations.. why is this not included. It seriously should be even at a standard level suite purchase. They're doing great things over there with Kynapse, Beast, HumanIK, on and on... Scaleform! Really, i cannot emphasize this enough, more holistic envisioning and integration with Maya would be #2 on my list.
As earlier mentioned, the Adobe Cloud is nice and affordable and makes great sense for small studios/ individuals to have complete suite access at a very very low cost. This should be something Autodesk is considering for all of its' products. However, the pricing MUST make sense. CS6 master and a ton of other tools and features are available for only 50$ a month.. well over 2700$ worth of software. That's 4.5 years of subscription, an exceptional value with continuous upgrades AND support included. Autodesk needs this approach.

I am using Maya 2013 in my windows 64bit Dell Workstation. Recently i was useing Maya Fur on one of my Charecter. It came out fine. Then i tried
to get some dynamics of nHair on Fur by connecting nHair to FurDescrition by Clicking on 'Attach Hair System To Fur' in the Fur Tab..
At this time i am getting an error in the command line,
// Warning: file: C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2013/scripts/fur/FurPluginCreateUI.mel line 8552: outputCurves are not attached to the selected hair system //
Can somebody help me on this issue... Tried Most the possibilities but all in vain...

Just wondering if Autodesk could support/host an area on their site for python extensions that are compiled against visual studio 2010 by individuals who are willing to share them? As you're no doubt aware (ie: for the benefit of other readers) there are python extensions that are no longer compatible with 2013, and not everyone has access to someone that knows how to recompile. Having a place where people could upload for others to benefit from would be really helpful.
Hope you're well.
