Summer means two things to me: drinking on one of Montrealâs many terraces and Siggraph. Yep, thatâs what makes summer for me. I wouldnât want to miss out on either of them. So, here is a quick update on Siggraph happenings around MoBu:
[MoBu VIP Cocktail] We are having our 2nd Annual MotionBuilder VIP Cocktail event on Tuesday night to get the MoBu community together, have a few drinks and chat all things real-time. This year we have two sponsors for the event, which we are really excited about. Xsens, the makers of the Moven system and Dell are sponsoring our event this year and that means bigger venue and more MoBu users. We started sending out invites last week and the response so far has been fantastic. I guess our party last year worked out well , as everyone wants to come back for the follow on event. I am really excited to get to see everyone together again, try to remember everyoneâs names, and hope that I donât fall in the pool. [MoBu PAC] At Siggraph, we will also be holding our 2nd MotionBuilder Product Advisory Council meeting. This is a meeting of our top MoBu customers to discuss the strategic direction of the product, long-term roadmap, discussion about technology trends, and where our customers need us to focus. The event at GDC (which I was unable to attend because of a broken ankle) was our first of these council meetings, and feedback from it was really positive so we are doing another one this Siggraph. [MoBu Team] The MotionBuilder team will be out in full force in LA. In attendance will be Steve MacPherson, Senior Manager; Kevin OâNeal, Product Designer; Sylvain Laroche, Development Manager; and myself, Product Manager. Absent this year is Mathieu Paquin, who is holding down the fort while we run from party to party at the showâ¦;) And thatâs it for now. Stay tuned for more Siggraph updates! In other news, we recently wrapped up a round of customer visits in Europe, covering the UK, France and Germany. We visited with some existing MoBu users and studios that were just starting to look at the product. We talked with customers about their pipelines, what types of challenges they are facing and dove (under NDA of course) into what we had been working on over the past year. Response from customers? âSign me up! How do I get on Beta?â â Undisclosed customer in the UK We were happy to hear that the work we have been doing in relative silence is going to make a pretty big bang when we announce it. Stay tuned! While in Germany, we were shown how game developers kick back after a week of hard work: Apfelwein! The crew at Crytek invited us to a local hangout for dinner and drinks, which was a great way to experience a bit of local fare. I highly recommend the drive from Frankfurt to Köln along the Rhine River. Amazing view and man can you drive fast. "Wow" fast.
Image Description: Drinks with the Crytek crew (and Kevin on the left, our Product Designer on MoBu) Shout out this posting to Chris Evans: 3D Technical Artist @ Crytek and a great host. We recently met Chris in Germany during our visit to Crytek. Chris has a pretty impressive background of projects and companies, which made for some really interesting stories. And he also writes about his MoBu projects on the go, which are pretty freaking cool. Check out his blog postings on âFacial Animation Stabilisationâ or his âSimple Perforce Animation Browser for MoBuâ.
And last, but not least, a big âCongratz!â to Michal Gamrat at the University of Science and Technology in Krakow, Poland, for winning the Animation Award in the Build Something: Student Design Challenge held by Autodesk: Autodesk, Inc. announced the winners of the Build Something: Student Design Challenge, a design contest created to encourage the next generation of design professionals from around the world to showcase their skills using Autodesk digital technologies in industrial design, architecture, civil and mechanical engineering and 3D animation. Award for 3D Animation Winner: Michal Gamrat, University of Science and Technology in Krakow, Poland, for his animation of a superhero character in an industrial environment. Gamrat used Autodesk MotionBuilder, Autodesk 3ds Max and Autodesk Combustion software to bring his superhero to life. Link Okay â time to get back to the terrace... Curtis | |||||
