 Hi All,

Hello from Canada!!!!  Apologies about the posting delay... my wireless didn't work very well at 36000 feet yesterday ...  Only kidding....

Never the less it is a sunny day in Montreal and a lot is brewing in the Autodesk camp...

I also had a time to meet a few more people and discuss the finer issues of using our products from a beginner level and so many topics came up.

One of the themes that confuses people is how action handles footage through the media list.

THE ACTION PIPELINE:  The Media List

In this presentation, I have tried to explain the basics of action pipeline, how media is handled in action and the benefits of the media list in relation to the action composite.

This video blog is best viewed at 1:1 in Full Screen Mode

The features shown are current to version 2010 ext 1 of Smoke and Flame (Linux and Mac)

  • The key take away is to remember that the media list hold your footage that is to be used for various operations in action.
  • The schematic view shows the objects in your main composite and the number under the objects represents the entry in the media list.
  • You can replace an individual front or matte or both at the same time.
  • Keying, cropping, colour correction and blurring are applied to the media via the media list before being used in the composite
  • The design of the pipeline allows you to re-use the same media on multiple objects in action (Commonly known as instancing.)

I hope this session has been useful for you and if you have any questions, you know where to find me...

Take care where ever you are and I look forward to seeing you again soon!

Signing off from Canada....

Grant

great explanation of source/layer, grant! this is also a similar workflow in Autodesk Composite; albeit a slightly different UI - the concept of a "sending source media into" action is very much the same.

thanks and cheers,
