Hi Everyone,

I hope that you are well.

This week I want to show you a great animation tool inside the Action 3D Compositor.

AUTODESK SMOKE:
Motion Animations with the 3D Path

There are always so many way to do one thing.  I can never stress that enough and animation is no exception.

The 3D path tool in the Action 3D compositor allows you to draw a free floating path in 3D space and attach any object you want.

These objects can run along the 3D path as well as be aligned to it.

My example demonstrates 3D text on a path but you can put whatever you want including layers, lights and camera.

Check it out!

Level: Beginner
Software: Smoke 2012 SAP 1

 Enjoy!

This video is best viewed in Full Screen HD mode

The features shown are valid for Smoke 2012 SAP 1 for Mac

If you like this tool and want to see more of it in action than please let me know and I'll create a much more complicated example combining 3D paths with a wide range of tools.

If you have any comments, questions or feedback, please leave them in the comments below the blog post.

@hererra Smoke does not have its own 3D tracker. Are you referring to importing in cloud point data from maya, pftrack or Matchmover?

I definitely vote for the 'much more complicated example'
