There is a small issue with 3ds Max 2013 and its new feature called State Sets. As it shipped, 3ds Max 2013 State Sets cannot naively record a flag to enable or disable network rendering. This is due to the fact that this is no longer a check box "flag". This short video shows a quick, band-aid fix to enable users to work with State Sets in 3ds Max 2013 and opt to use network rendering or not with the click of a button.
enjoy!

Great fix, thanks Gary.
But still, I can not understand how such design flaws can be developed.
I realy hope the State Sets will be developed further. It's great tool that needs to be polished.
I'm glad to see some improvments over the subscription pack version. That one didn't even have a 'browse' button.
