Take a look at these screen captures and video clip. It seems like some sort of software rendering in the viewport. The question is, what renderer and which viewport? We're trying to pin this down as it looks like something that users might want to have in 3ds Max eventually. Can you help us identify these curious images?

Our technical experts have identified the following features of the image:
- Anti-aliasing
- Exposure control (tonemapping)
- Ambient occlusion effects
- Depth-of-field
- Bump-mapping
- Soft shadows

Mystery solved! You're looking at images from 3ds Max 2010 and the new Review 3 viewport enhancements! Plus some undocumented stuff, doubt we'll keep that secret for long.

If that's not confirmation that all of these viewport enhancements are part of Max 2010 and that an announcement of 2010 is imminent, I don't know what is. Thanks Ken!

Vray is great, and max users have that option too!

You'll soon be able to try big and heavy scenes on your own time and with your own machine. Don't forget to post us all some of the images!

How about RealTime Rendering - not realtime viewport directX hacks.

Vray's realtime rendering and where they are going is what makes sense.

Lets see a scene with real production heavy geo & deforming meshes, particles, hair, & more....no more gaming levels & lowpoly characters.
