Join Autodesk Product Management and Development for a special webcast where we’ll unveil our plans for Project Excalibur (XBR). XBR is a restructuring of 3ds Max that is intended to occur over three phases. It addresses fundamental improvements in workflow, UI, and performance. 3ds Max 2010 is part of Phase I, and elements of XBR in the release include the visual quality of the viewport, the use of metasl, and new UIs. 3ds Max 2010 was a launching pad for XBR, but there’s still much more to come. Attend this webcast and get a sneak peak at the future of 3ds Max.

This 60 minute webinar is scheduled only forJanuary 27th and is only availabe at 9AM, 5PM and 8PM EST. This session will not be repeated. We apologize in advance if you can't make these times. We hope to record one or more of the sessions, if we're succesful, we'll post where you can find them.

You CANNOT join without registering first.

Note: We cannot talk about specific features being delivered with specific dates. This is not permitted for financial accounting reasons. So, we will not talk about the following:

  • When any features will arrive, we will only talk about phases that we're targeting and a phase does not equal a release
  • We will not talk about specific feature details, we will talk about goals we want to achieve and some of the benefits of those goals
  • If you're attending to learn what the next release might have, you will be dissapointed because we cannot even confirm the existance of a future release
  • We will not talk about specific industries or tools for those industries

What we will do:

  • We will talk broadly about what we want to achieve with 3ds Max over several phases and show you some of our ideas for the future
  • What we show you is not a complete picture of what we're researching, it is a subset of core efforts that we call XBR, we will only be discussing XBR
  • We hope to take questions via an email/chat interface, details aren't yet available

We want to make sure we're setting the right expectations. Unfortunately, we have to limit certain conversations due to financial accounting rules so this is not a complete reveal of every detail of our roadmap for the next several years. You should walk away from this with a general understanding of what we think some big problems are and things that we hope to solve over the next several years.

Wasn't bad at all. It seems you got the main concerns of users right as well as many of our wishes and expectations possibly fulfilled.

Could this be possible?
It sounds awesome but after my enthusiasm subsided and thoughts settled down it seems to me like a lot of changes to be performed in a short time. And since you are concerned about not alienating the userbase as you mentioned, it would be quite difficult with so many radical changes. If what was described is not meant to be done in short time then that means we are looking to a development horizon of .. 2-4 years? That is a bit too long to wait for a "revolution" is it not?

If yes that would mean that we should perhaps expect the launch of a completely different application (like Softimage became Softimage XSI) by the end of the year or mid next year?

Ken - awesome! Really excited about the interoperability between things. We currently use both Maya and Max and hopping back and forth is always a struggle. Even down to trying to remember hot keys between - ACA,Revit,Max and Maya I have nightmares. Thanks for the glimpse into your ideas glad it is right where i was hoping!
