Mr. LaRue, where have you been? Smoke 2013 that is where!!

Hi everyone, remember me? It has been a while.

So let me tell you what I have been up to. I’m sure you all heard about the all new Smoke 2013, we announce it at NAB, with a new UI, new editing conventional workflow, new timeline and effect workflow with ConnectFX, and new price!! We’ll a little over a year ago I was approached with a change of position within Autodesk; I was asked if I would like to be part of the Smoke marketing team. During this discussion I was also told of the big plan for Smoke 2013 and as I listened I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I wanted to be a part of it!  So I started working as the Technical Marketing Manager for Smoke and it has been an amazing and very busy year.

Right now you can see for yourself why I’m so excited to be part of Smoke.  Check out the free pre-release trial of Smoke 2013 running through December 2012.  A lot of work went into announcing Smoke at NAB and the response has been fantastic and the excitement around it continues to grow.

A big part of my job is to help continue that excitement. So now that I’ve reintroduced myself and you know that my focus is on Smoke, going forward I promise to be posting and blogging about what is happening with Smoke. You’ll see helpful videos with tips, trick and tutorials.

So, book mark this blog and check regularly, and be sure you download the free trail of Smoke 2013 @ www.autodesk.com/smoke-trial

If you have questions while you test the new Smoke 2013 I recommend you visit either one of these two Smoke 2013 forums.

Hmmm....this reads to me a little like Composite is officially abandon-ware. It that correct?

Hi 3D Monkey,
I didn’t mean to imply that, Composite, as you know, is part of our 3D programs and there are plenty of people here to support Composite on their blogs. My main focus has turned to Smoke.

Yeah sorry about that gruff sounding comment Ken .
I was under the impression that you were kind of the Composite guy, so if you have been moved onto Smoke then that led me to believe that there would not be any further development planned for Composite, which is crying out for more features.
So should I take it that there is some further development planned, along-side other blogs with tutorials or technical support? ;-)

Smoke looks really nice by the way. Any Windows/Linux versions on the horizon?

Actually 3DMonkey's last question is relevant regarding a Windows version. Like anybody, I love the Mac I use while I'm learning Smoke 2013, and as soon as I learn more about Smoke to be able to ascertain whether or not there is a bug, I will be popping on these blogs with my own questions and observations. Meanwhile, I remain concerned about Apple's commitment to the professional market. I've been a "loyal" Apple customer for over 30 years, but one thing I've noticed is when they decide not to do anything anymore, they just dump it outright (any 17" MacBook Pro owners out there?) I resisted Avid when they went to a Windows platform, but that resistance faded once I realized how well it worked on that platform. A Windows version of Smoke would be a prudent thing to have should Apple decide to concentrate only on their consumer market and dump the Macs we use to run Smoke.

Hi jfriese1,
I understand your concerns and I have no more information on the future plans from Apple than you do. We at Autodesk have heard your question several times but currently we are focusing our efforts on Smoke 2013 for the Macintosh platform.
