Uncompressed HD and 2K in Smoke on your MacBook Pro.
The first time I saw the Pegasus at NAB, earlier this year, I was blown away by the speed and bandwidth of the unit, for editing, but also for compositing and VFX work. Promise Technology, who I knew for their Fibre Channel storage, finally started shipping their Pegasus arrays in June. Available in 4 or 6-drive bay configurations, it's a great addition to your Smoke workstation, as long as the Mac you own has a Thundebolt port. Every 2011 Mac has one.
Now, with the release of their SANLink box, you can even plug your iMacs, Mac Minis and MacBook Pros into your existing XSAN infrastructure.
I had a chat with Victor Pacheco, Senior Manager for Field Applications & Support at Promise Technology, and we discussed the various configurations that every Smoke user might want to know.
