FIXED! Creating a deployment image which includes Service Pack 1

Posted by MaxStation, 27 June 2011 1:00 am

To make the install of 3ds Max 2012 on multiple machines easier you can create a network deployment image and whilst you're at it you can include Service Pack1.

Unfortunately there is an issue with the deployment wizard which won't let you select a service pack when you create a new deployment (this has been reported to our developers). There is a simple workaround: first create the deployment and then modify it to include the service pack.

The problem was fixed, when you go to the 3ds Max 2012 options you can download or add the downloaded service pack.

Some more details

Click on the down arrow to see the installation options for 3ds Max 2012:

Scroll to the bottom to see the Service Pack options (which are not now selectable):

No problem, just create the deployment image without the Service Pack by clicking on 'Create' and then modify the image.

Either download the service pack or browse to the Service Pack file you've downloaded.

If you'vce created a deployment and want to add a Service Pack: browse to the Tools folder of the deployment and double-click 'Create & modify a deployment'  and go through the same steps until you get to the point where you can configure 3ds Max 2012:

Use 'Add' to browse to the location where you've downloaded the service pack.

And then select whether you want to append the Service Pack (so the file included in the deployment image and automatically runs once 3ds Max is installed) or merge it (the Service Pack is applied to the files of the deployment image so it's not possible to remove it later).

Click on 'Create Deployment':

Enter the path where you want to create the deployment image and configure the installation settings:

Accept the EULA:

Select the license type and enter the serial number and product key:

Click on the arrow to see the options for 3ds Max 2012:

Configure the options for 3ds Max 2012:

Click on 'Create' and after a little while the deployment is ready:

Hi loocas, deploying the image is indeed just a question of double-clicking the link that's created in the root of the deployment image. For more info see http://download.autodesk.com/us/industries/mne/pdf/adsk_me_networkadminguide_en.pdf (chapter 2 is about automating the deployment: scripting, Group Policy Objects, Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager).

As you can see from the title of the post the issue has been resolved: you can now add a service pack when you create a new deployment.
