Alex Horst Blog, 04 May 2016 15:26:58 UTCThe Rebirth of Giana Sisters in 3ds MaxAlex Horst
Thanks to Black Forest Games we just published the latest Meet The Experts Webinar, which shows how the classic C64 game Giana Sisters got rebooted with 3ds Max.

We show the full DCC development cycle from production of concept art to export to the game engine, looking at asset creation and animation along the way.

What makes this indie reboot very special is the player’s ability to transform not just the main character, but the mood of the world you play in. Black Forest Games created two versions of each asset and morphed between these assets in real-time in the Game Engine to create a unique and beautiful platformer that operates across two parallel worlds.

Hoping you enjoy this webinar / tutorial. I didn’t have time to put in additional workflows like how to use mParticles for Games and how to generate LODs for Morph objects. Stay tuned for a bonus track on these topics in the near future.

Ps: Big thanks to Andreas Feist and the Black Forest Team for providing such great insight into their workflows and models.
Thu, 24 Apr 2014 17:09:08 UTC Max Webinar Recording: Create 3D game assets in less timeAlex Horst
The recent Meet the Experts webinar is now available as a recording on youtube.

It is showing me taking the role of a fictional advertising agency and trying to create a casual game prototype and product rebrand within a day.

Basically you are going to find some Tips & Tricks about the usage of Viewport Canvas Texture Painting, Particle Flow, Sketchbook Designer, Kinect MotionCapturing along with MotionBuilder and last but not least the interop between 3ds Max and Unity to create the game prototype itself.

If you have questions: feel free to use the commentary section below to get in touch.

Hope you’ll have some fun with the content ;).

Ps: A big thank you goes to 3DRT for providing us with their Zombie Family Character Pack and to Quantum Theory who have created the awesome Urban Construction Pack. Both available on the Unity Asset Store.
Thu, 08 Aug 2013 08:05:55 UTC Show Reel 2013Alex Horst
The new Autodesk Show Reel 2013 just arrived online.
