I just realized, its official I am now an Excel pushing, Powerpoint building, proposal writing management guy. I'm not sure when this actually happened. All I know is it dawned on me this week that I hadn't touched a 3d app in 2 months. I went from building all the 3ds max new feature web videos and being the roadshow presenter guy only this fall to excel guru. I'm sure a number of you out there feel my pain. One day you are working away creating shots and you are offered the "promotion". Of course you accept it. Your flattered and proud your hard work has been recognized. The bigger check doesn't hurt either. You feel a little twinge in the back of your head that warns you something is wrong, but you ignore it. That was your first in a series of mistakes and before you know it 2 more promotions come along and you forget how to spell 3D.
Hello everyone. I returned from vacation last week and I am starting to dig back in. Thanks to my usual email avoidance tactics I only had about 450 email to deal with. It could have been much worse.
Okay, so now in part 2 (you did read part one right? No. Go read it. I'll wait) I'm going to look at the problem from the software companies side. I'm going to put a little more detail into this as I think most of us are used to thinking as annoyed software users not as developers and testers.
I was browsing around our discussion forums a couple days ago and ran across a thread started by Darv in one of the Off Topic boards called My Rant on Rants. Darv was writing about how most rants about software are not useful as they do not provide specific measurable information. Without this nothing can be done. If someone tells you your art sucks all it does is make you mad and in no way helps you improve it.
So I was logging into a site today and after many failed attempts and cycling through a few passwords, not to mention a few curse words, I realized my problem. I bet you can all say it with me...THE CAPS LOCK KEY WAS ON. It's one of those things that you feel stupid about, like not checking the power cord, but it still gets you every now and then.
