Well I've been here in New Orleans for 3 days and there is no sleep to be had.  Siggraph in NO is such a love/hate thing.  Too much work and too much play means no time for resting :)  This actually marks my 10th Sig with Alias/Autodesk... wow that is hard to believe!

So anyway...  Below is a movie that I recorded for a Siggraph demo this week.  It's just a subset of a larger workflow demo that we're showing at the booth.  This piece covers Animation Layers and shows how they can be used to modify existing animation in a nondestructive way.  Animation Layers were introduced in Maya2009 (based on MotionBuilder technology.)  So they've been around for a year or so, but I find that a lot of people are still learning about the feature.  It's quite powerful and flexible, and they make experimentation easier and iteration times much faster.

OK...  I just re-read that and this is starting to sound a little too much like marketing babble so I'll shut up now and let you watch the movie :)

Note:  I also discuss the "Smart Bake" option, which we also inherited from MotionBuilder, for cleanly merging layers together.

You can check out the live demos from SIggraph here...

Hi Anas K. Just go to the RenderSettings window, set your file format to AVI and set your frame range accordingly. Then just run a Batch Render and you will get a movie file.

One of the only areas to see an upgrade in 2010!

I played around with using Animation Layers to do multiple variations on simulations, you can get interesting results from varying the weight of the layers.

Using expressions with Animation Layers could do with a bit of work though, it is not very straight forward right now.
