I had some much needed down time last week after 2 straight weeks of conferences. GDC was fun, but as always exhausting. We had a great show though, particularly since we got to show new versions of pretty much all of our entertainment products. I did primarily Maya 2011 demos and met with various game developers to discuss the details with them.

This short window of down time is just the calm before the storm because soon I will be on the road a lot... crisscrossing the country, meeting with game developers to discuss all the new stuff.  SF, LA, Seattle, Montreal, Vancouver... here I come!!

Anyone see "Up in the Air"?  That's pretty much my life when I'm on the road... well except for the affair part..  that and the part about having to fire people. That would suck.  Luckily my job is way cooler than that :)  The title sequence in particular (which is cool) is something I'm all too familiar with.

(Created by Shadowplay Design and Content Studio)

So anyway...  here is a quick movie showing most of the animation related updates in Maya2011.  In it I primarily discuss the improvements to the GraphEditor and all of the great curve and key management tools that were added.

Quick credit... thanks to Marcel deJong for putting together the original demo file showing the new Scene Time Warp feature.  Also thanks to Artificial Mind and Movement for providing the content (from their hit game Wet) for our demos.

Note: I did not cover the new animation retargeting stuff in this demo but If you're curious about that and other new Maya 2011 stuff that I showed at GDC you can see it and more in a recording of my Maya presentation...

Yes the Hypershade has gotten a face lift as a benefit of QT, but not a complete overhaul. There are some nice improvements like being able to create a list of favorites for shader and textures nodes, as well as the ability to separate your outline list of node categories from the list of creatable nodes.

Hallelujah. were did M2011 come from all of the sudden - it seems autodesk has listened very carefully in the past years and made all the right moves. I am very very happy with all the new stuff in there - much more then I dreamed of.
You guys pat yourself on the shoulder - GraphEditor what have I hated you in the past - it seems I can start loving you in the future.

One question remains - whats going on with hypershade? has that seen a change as well - I read somewhere that it did but couldn“t find any more info.

Time remap curve.
Teh awesome!

I have been needing that for a very long time in Maya. 3dsmax had it so why not Maya i thought :)

Hey Andymac - yep as an old Power Animator user myself I'm happy to see stuff like the curve filter. Better late than never :) As for isolated or selective time warping you can use Character Sets and Trax for this. Not ideal maybe but doable.

Great stuff - Thank you!

Would love to see a demo of the enhanced Hypershade too!
