New LayoutTools2011 for Maya2011

Posted by STLR, 25 June 2010 7:00 pm

TGIF!   I have a full week of mandatory vacation next week plus a holiday on the Monday after the fourth. I'm actually really glad AD makes us a take some mandatory time off otherwise I might never find time to do it. I'm not sure exactly what I'll be doing next week but whatever I do I hope I have as much fun doing it as these people are having doing whatever it is that they're doing :)

I laugh every time I see this pic.  The guy putting his pants on cracks me up... or is he taking them off?  I also love the various bottles of booze scattered about the room. I'm pretty sure that's a Bartles&James wine cooler there on the table.

So anyway... At long last I have finally finished LayoutTools2011. Phew. It took me longer than I expected, so for those of you that have been waiting for it, thank you for your patience. Most of the updates are related to the UI this time around.  The first movie covers these changes...

I also added a couple of extra handy tools like the "Spin Tool" for rotating selections of objects in unison. The second movie covers this tool...

Here is the install package - the final beta version.  This should be the final version, but I'm going to give it a couple of weeks for any last minute bug fixes before I "officially" post it.  Give it a whirl and let me know if you have any issues with it.  (See README.txt file in zip for installation instructions.)

Hi Steven I'm getting this error now every time I launch LayoutTools from the shelf:

// Error: file: maya/scripts/levelTools/LT_UI.mel line 1911: Object 'LT_form' not found.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll see if I can reproduce and hopefully fix the crash bug next week when I'm back to work. And adding the render option shouldn't be too hard either. I'll look into it.

Sorry for the late replies...

Saisimha - I've added mental ray as an option for icon creation. I'll include this in the next update. It was a little trickier than I thought it would be, but I finally got it working. I'll also look into adding the other feature requests in a future version. Thanks for the feedback!

Alexv - If you want to prevent the creation of the LT hotkeys you'll have to comment out or delete the "Setup Hotkeys" section in the LT_generalProc.mel file. Specifically, you'll need to comment out or delete the LT_setupHotkeyLT() & LT_setupWalkCam() procs from that file and then re-save. If you have trouble with this just email me and I can send you a custom version without the hotkey procs.

HamburgerTrain - I am adding the alpha for all icon creation so that will be in the next update. That was just an oversight. Thanks for catching it. Still looking into the other comments.

Best - not sure what's causing that error. Try running the tool directly from the command line with LT_UI and let me know what happens.

timaging - Thanks. I'm still trying to pinpoint the cause of this crash.

I keep on getting this error:

// Error: Object 'LT_form' not found.

I got a new error:

// Error: Cannot find procedure "LT_displayProcs".

LT UI wont pop-up

pixelweave / eject81 - thank for the info, I'll see if I can get this to repeat... what OS are you two on?

STLR - I did as you said, but now will not start interface\script. Gives an error!

Alexv - Sorry... I meant to comment out the contents of those procs (i.e. leave the procs but make them empty)

Maya keeps crashing when I try to change the prefix in the import tab. I have to rename my folder with the "props" prefix in order to make it work. I'm on win xp 64 and MAYA_APP_DIR is pointing to a network drive (I don't know if this is useful...)

I got the same error .... // Error: Object 'LT_form' not found.

Using Win 7 x64.

Hmmm...
I tried to run LT as it is, but nothing comes.

LT_UI;
// Error: Object 'LT_form' not found. //

Yep... I get the error too

// Error: Object 'LT_form' not found.

Double checked all files in the correct place, tried from the command line too.

Using Maya 2011- x64, OSX 10.6.4

Thanks

Thanks for the feedback everyone. The LT_form bug has been hard to track down, mainly because I can never seem to recreate the problem. It's obviously has to do with one of the option vars not getting reset. Thanks again for taking the time to post.

when will a new bug free final version be available? (prefix change still crashes LT for me )

STLR

Posted 23 September 2010 7:23 pm

Working on it as we speak. Sorry for the delay. I got pulled onto several other projects over the summer. I have the LT_form bug figured out (finally was able to reproduce it)

Still trying to figure out the prefix bug
