Below I've posted a quick movie to show three different tools / methods for managing texture files that are associated with a given Maya scene file.  The tools that are covered are...

  • Archive Scene
  • ChangeTexture Paths (BonusTools)
  • Organize Files (BonusTools)

A fourth method, which is not covered in this movie, is to simply export the Maya scene to FBX format and choose the "embed textures" option.  This will put the texture files themselves into the same FBX file as the other scene data (although some Maya specific data may not be preserved using this method.)

Note:  I have made an update to one of the BonusTools scripts for "Change Texture Paths" which I've posted below.  This fixes a bug related to setting relative paths.  You could not do what is shown in the demo movie in the previous version of this tool.  This update will be added to the next release of BonusTools but in the meantime you can download this script...

relocateTexturesWin  (MEL script)

After downloading and extracting the script do one of the following...

1.  Replace the old relocateTexturesWin.mel file in C:\Program Files\Autodesk\MayaBonusTools2009\scripts\. with this updated version

  or...

2.  Simply copy this script into  ->  MyDocs\Maya09\scripts\.  (2009-x64 for 64 bit).  This will override the one that is installed with bonusTools.

Here is a video that may solve your 2011 problems:

I noticed this as well and it appears to be an issue with the file browser for QT. There was a subtle change in the Mel command (an extra flag I think) and it's preventing it from working. I'll try to fix it and update when I can.

van_der_goes I have the same issue on Mac OS X, so no it's not your configuration.

FWIW, this script is identical to the one I was using as far back as Maya 6, not sure why it's not working in 2011 when it's worked fine all these years.

Hi steven, I cannot run organize file in maya 2011. I have one warning and one error:

// Warning: file: E:/Program Files/Autodesk/MayaBonusTools2011//scripts/organizeFilesWindow.mel line 604: fopen: unable to open file "G:/My Documents/maya/libAddressFile.txt" for mode "w". //
// Error: Too many arguments. Expected 1, found 2. //

I'm running maya on win xp 64 and I have MAYA_APP_DIR pointing to a network drive.
Do you think that this error is specific to my configuration?
Thank you

Why are the change texture path not available in Maya 2011? Highend managers don't work in Maya 2011 !!!
