Cheng Lor Biography

Cheng Lor

Position:
Technical Animator
Company:
Infinity Ward

My name is Cheng K. Lor. I graduated in spring 2006 with a Bachelor of Science: Applied Computer Graphics Production from California State University. I started my studies in computer graphics using Lightwave 3D, then eventually moved to a more powerful, user-friendly and customizable package: Maya. My area of focus was in rigging. In addition, I also studied programming in C, and scripting in Java & Mel (Maya's scripting language). Immediately following graduation, I had a job offer at Infinity Ward to work on Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare as a Technical Animator, and currently I still work for Infinity Ward.

A normal day starts with looking at my "bug list", a list of tasks I need to work on. From this list, I start working on the one with the highest priority. My duties are to rig weapons, vehicles, and props for the game. In addition to rigging, once the model is rigged and ready to animate, I have to do some testing to make sure the rig animates to our standards. After rigging and testing is completed, I need to make sure the model doesn't produce errors when exported into the game engine. Once I have exported successfully, the game model and rig are ready for animation. From here, I fix or pass the "bug" or task to let the animators and level designers know this model is ready for use in game. This is mainly what I do at my day job, plus the fun work environment and people.
