Hello All,

Just got 3dsmax 2009 32bit as an upgrade from 3dsmax 9.0. It is installed on a Hewlett-Packard Workstation running XP Pro Version 2002 service pack 2.

It all looks lovely.

Except that when I click on the Modifier Stack Drop Down Icon the application freezes and can only be restarted by Ctrl Alt Deleting.

This as you can imagine is a bit of a problem.

So far, I have tried installing the hotfixes, disabling Direct X drivers, turning off Anti Virus and Setting my Desktop to one screen. All to no avail.

Has anyone else come across this problem and if so how did they fix it?

Cathal

Hello again,

Since my first post I have updated my nVidia Quadra drivers, installed a new Windows Intellimouse, and reinstalled 3dsmax 2009. No improvement.

I have noticed that 3dsmax only freezes if I have an object selected when clicking on the Modifier Stack Drop Down. Which perhaps indicates that it is not a graphics card or mouse driver issue.

I am running out of ideas and considering rebuilding the computer. A major step that would eat up a lot of production hours.

So, any ideas?

Cathal

Have you installed the latest hotfixes? I had a ton of crashing until I installed hotfix 3.

Thanks pluhn,

I have installed these two hotfixes : 3dsmax2009_32-bit_hotfix_20080411.msp and 3dsmax2009_32-bit_hotfix3_20080501.msp

I didn’t see a hotfix2, should there be one?

No, there is no hotfix 2 for whatever reason. Does the lock-up occur in a new scene or when modifying an existing Max9 scene? I’ve had trouble brining some Max9 scenes into 2009.

I’m not sure what else you can try, other than submit a bug report to Autodesk.

Thanks again pluhn,

The lock-up occours with either new scenes or old files.

I think it’s rebuild time.

Meanwhile I’ll send in a defect report.

I am also having this same problem. I have done everything you have done and been on the phone with our reseller and Auto Desk. Fortunately there keeping the case open and trying to figure out what the problem is. What Nvidia Quadro FX card are you using?

Hello John,

Sorry to hear you’re having the same problem.

My graphics card is an NVIDIA Quadro FX 1500. I have downloaded and installed the latest driver : 169.96_quadro_winxp2k_international_whql.exe

If you do figure something out let me know, I’ll do the same.

It might not be the Graphics card. I’m using A Nvidia Quadro FX 550 and It’s literally the same problem. Auto Desk has tested yours and it should work.

Cathal is it doing this in directx mode?  If so try changing it to opengl just to see if it still does it.

Another thing I don’t think this is your problem but uninstall the intellimouse software.

Thanks Arius,

The lock-up happens under Direct 9.0c, OpenGL and Software mode.

I have also tried it with both the intelimouse and a standard mouse along with their respective drivers.
