Hello,
there is a thing that bugs me since Max 9.

If I specify an output name with some characters in uppercase like ’Project Name - Camera Name‘, when I want to change the output, all the characters are changed to lowercase (’project name - camera name‘) so, if I want to keep my formatting, I have to retype the whole thing.
I’ve noticed that it also happens in other places, like in the bitmap names on the material editor: you specify a bitmap name like ‘OAKLEAF.TGA’ the next time you open the texture, the name is changed to ‘oakleaf.tga’.

I’m running Windows XP 64 bits and I’ve noticed this problem in Max 9, 2008 and 2009.

Is there an option in Max that lets you keep the filename formatting?

Thanks

That’s not happening here - filenames are retaining their case even after reloading max and the scene. I can’t find any options relating to the case of filenames. If anything this is more likely a windows issue rather than Max.

Have you looked at the files themselves (outside of Max)? Are they as intended? Does this happen in any other application?

I get this problem only with the render output filename. It’s a known bug, one of the many introduced with Max 9, and still not fixed.

That’s what I checked - the render output filename. Not changing case for me (2009 SP1, XP64 SP2).

Thanks for the replies,

On my system I’ve only noticed this problem working in 3dsMax.

I’ve attached a couple images to explain better the problem.

It doesn’t happen when you first create the filename, it’s if you go back and change it afterwards. In this example you can see it has a capital in the Render Setup box, and the job had already rendered with the right filename. When you click the Files… button to change it it appears in the File name field in lowercase, not a problem if you are completely renaming it, but I sometimes append the filename when rendering different versions. For me it’s not that big a deal really, just slightly annoying, there are far worse bugs out there.

Yep, same here, on several occasions when outputting a file it lowers my letters. It was the same on XP64, and now on Vista Ultimate 64...on MAX 2009.

Yes same problem here, but only sporadically; usually just after I submit a network render job to backburner.  I first noticed this problem in Viz2008.  Is it maybe something to do with network paths (ie “UNC” naming)?

I doubt it, as i get the same problem on local files.

aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh
sometimes max is the pits aint it, all these bugs.!!

I have the same problem too with these filenames and it’s a waste of time having to always change the lower case to upper case should I wish to…
When you’re having a bad day max doesn’t make you feel better does it.
