Is it me or am I no longer able to copy a modifier from an object and
paste an instance of that to a collection of objects ?

In older versions, I used to make an wall, add an UVWmap, add a vrayDisplacementMod.

Then I create some wall objects, add a UVWmap to them all together so it’s instanced across the wall collection
after that I would go to the first object, copy the vrayDisplacementMod.
Select the wall collection again and since there was the instanced UVWmap i was able to paste
an instanced vrayDisplacementMod on the entire wall collection.

I am no longer able to do this ...

it’s not related to the vraymod btw, it’s across the board.

time to start submitting a bug ?
can anyone confirm this workflow has disappeared ?

Have a read through this thread first.

It would probably be better to give a simple example, step by step, without using plugins because that precludes many of us from trying to duplicate the specific problem - difficult to do if we don’t have Vray.

Max 4.2 through 2013.
XP-64 (SP2)
NVidia 9800GTX-512 (Driver 266.58).
Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz, 8Gb Ram, DX9.0c.

Hm yeah the workaround posted there is what I used to be able to use.
That’s the problem right there ... it doesn’t work anymore.
Sorry about the plugin specific. It was just to show my workflow and how I found out
about it.
Here’s non-plugin step-by-step workflow to illustrate the problem

For those of you that have versions prior to 2009 installed as well, try the following

Create a box
add an UVWmap modifier
Create 2 more boxes and select them
add an edit_mesh modifier (result is an instanced edit_mesh modifier on both the boxes
select the1st box
copy the UVWmap modifier
select the 2 other boxes again
Rightclick on the instanced edit_mesh modifier
choose Paste instanced

you should now have an instanced UVWmap modifier on both the boxes
that’s an instance of the UVWmap of the 1st box.

Now try and repeat this in max2009 it’s a total no go.

Confirmed here.

Max 7 (SP1) - Works
Max 8 (SP3) - Works
Max 9 (SP2 32and 64 bit) - Works
Max 2008 (32 and 64 bit) - Fails: Paste and Paste Instanced are unavailable (greyed out)
Max 2009 ("Standard", not Design, 32 and 64 bit) - Fails: Paste and Paste Instanced are unavailable (greyed out)

Tends to suggest it was a bug in 2008 which carried over into 2009.

thanks for testing that ...

On a related note, I noticed that instanced modifiers below unique modifiers now show as expected with
multiple objects selected, Possibly, the bug was introduced with reprogramming this ?

Not yet - I was waiting for either further confirmations, or for someone to happen by and explain where I/we missed something glaringly obvious (not unheard of in my case ;) ).

Drop a reminder in here when you do - I’ll send my own bug report at that time.

In the meantime, post in the master bugs thread and include a link to this thread. It may get wider exposer that way.

Added it to the bugs thread and will leave a reminder when I submit it with the -> Defect Report Submission Form <-
Posting the link just to give it as much exposure as possible (also, there seem to be a couple of different links floating around and
this is the one Ken Pimentel posted, so it should be THE one.)
