Can you get the Camera Match Utility to create the right focal length lens?
It seems to match the perspective ok but you need to change the focal length (zoom in) to get the scale right.

Yup, confirmed in my 3ds Max 2010 as well.  Now it’s time for me to crash!! Time for bed!  ;)

While not required, you may wish to fill out the Defect Submission Form.
That is the only way you’ll know for certain the developers are aware of the problem.

Not a fix for the bug, but worth knowing if you are doing that kind of thing.
If you are on Subscription, Match Mover is now available for download on the Subs-Site.
