Hi all,
I getting some weird behavior from saved materials libraries in max 2010. I already report the defect to autodesk but i just curious if anyone also has the problem. Here is a breakdown:
- Open 3dsmax
- Make a material with a bitmap texture from a any location
- Save it to a new material library (Go to the material browser select Mtl Editor and Save as)
- Close 3dsmax
- Open again
- Open the material library we just saved and put the material in the material editor
- Check if there is the a path in the bitmap texture or just a string with the file type something like “PNG File” or “JPEG File”, if this is the case then you are getting the same “bug” as i have
Best regards,
Daniel

I can confirm your steps. I see “JPG” file where the file should be.

Same here.
So Max 2010 is fine as long as you don’t use material libraries? Thanks Autodesk!

Is there any word on a fix for this? Looked around but not seeing much…
Thanks in advance,

It won’t get fixed unless it’s reported to Autodesk as a bug. The more people who report it, the more chance there is it will get fixed.
The correct way to report bugs is via the Defect Report Submissions Form - there is no guarantee that they will read these forums.

Wich release are you using? the final commercial? Did you install the patch?
This problem appeared in some beta, but it is solved in the final one.
Let me know about it.

I just have some test. Actually I was wrong: it seems this problem still remain also in the final release. I’ve just sign it in the beta tester forum.
By the way, to ‘solve’ this problem, if you need a material from file A, you can open it, load the material library form the same file, then open file B (the file where you need the material) and so you can use the file A material. I know, this is not a good way to work.... I inform you as well as I’ll receive some news.

alessandro

I can confirm the problem still exists - Max 2010 (not design) with Hotfix “3dsmax2010_64-bit_2009.04.01.msp”. I assume this is the latest one available? It’s certainly the latest from here.
I believe the problem is two-fold.
2010 will correctly open a material library created in 2009
2010 will correctly open a scene created in 2009 (from the material/map browser)
2010 will not correctly open a material library created in 2010, but neither will 2009, so there is a problem with saving the library.
2010 will not correctly open a scene created in 2010 (from the material/map browser), so there is also a problem with loading a max scene as a “library”. The scene itself (and therefore its materials) load normally (from File > Open).
