| Skin Modifier Freaking Out

Has anyone noticed problems applying the Skin modifier to any editable mesh or editable poly?
When I apply a Skin modifier to a simple editable mesh, I receive several error messages, and somtimes the MAXScript window will open with two scripts loaded (addmodfunc.ms, filterfunctions.ms). I tried applying Skin to a biped model one time, and that got max completely hosed up with similar errors to the point that I had to force quit the application.
Some errors include:
Unknown system exception
CoCreateInstance() failed Please check your registry entries
To reproduce the problem:
1) Open 3ds Max 2010 (not as an Administrator).
2) Create a sphere.
3) Convert the sphere to an Editable Mesh or Editable Poly.
4) Apply a Skin modifier.
I have included a screenshot (attachment) of what happened when I applied a Skin modifier in my case.
I am using 3ds Max 2010 (32-bit) on Vista Ultimate (SP1, 32-bit, all updates).
Thanks for any FYIs!

Alrighty, I did try running 3ds Max as an Administrator, and then applying the Skin modifier worked! But, it seemed to take several seconds for the modifier to get applied. Applying the modifier anytime after that worked normally without any delays. Also, it appears that I no longer need to run 3ds Max as an Administrator to use the Skin modifier. I’m guessing that max needed to run something as an Administrator for the first time applying the Skin modifier, but now no longer needs that privilege.
Fun stuff!

I believe that Autodesk always recommends running its software on an account with administrator privledges.

Should only need to run Max once (as Administrator) immediately after installation i.e. before any other user. After that normal users should be able to run it.
Max 4.2 through 2013.

NVidia 9800GTX-512 (Driver 266.58).

Thanks for the suggestion guys, I’ll open max with “Run as Administrator” the next time that I install it. I haven’t noticed this behavior in 3ds Max 2009, however. Also, I see that the account that I’m logged into, robert, is listed as an “Administrator” rather than a “Standard user” in the User Accounts, so I’m not sure what’s going on there. Perhaps User Access Control is blocking more stuff that max needs?
Again, thanks for the help. You guys are great!
