How do I view/find topics that I started?
Also, this forums needs…
- Email notification for replies to posts/topics. Like other forums.
- Email notification by default [option] in profile. Like other forums.
- Way to search topics by username. Like other forums.

We know, we know :(
The devs are being pressed to fix a lot of known issues including those you mentioned - progress is slow, unfortunately.
Email notifications should work - use the link at the top of the thread not the checkbox on the post/reply page. Notifications are for replies only, not for comments.
I normally resort to Google for finding posts by users. Enter site:area.autodesk.com/forum followed by the search terms (eg. user name).

i’m a bit new to the area forums. was there a recent overhaul to the forum that caused these missing important features?

If you call over a year “recent” then yes the software was revised (new version) and it broke many things which used to work.
Note. I subscribed to this thread earlier when I replied - I just received the notification mail, so notifications do work (if you can manage to subscribe in the first place, of course).

Believe me, we’ve been pestering them for fixes since the change. Some things have been fixed, but not all. We’ll keep annoying them until they are fixed, but it takes time.

This is an “Official” Autodesk site. To be honest this is the “Store Front” for help, support, and the display of Autodesk’s usage of their software. How can you NOT have time?
This doesn’t say much for Autodesk or their business approach. Either they don’t care about their users after a software purchase, or rely on other forums to answer questions and issues, or they are lost as to “How” to fix this forum. There are many tutorials that are broken (Links do not work) and I have responded to one. That particular thread has been broken since 2006, if I remember correctly. Either the Admins/Mods don’t really monitor threads and posts, or something is seriously wrong with the way Autodesk deals with its “Official” site.
It’s time to “step up to the plate” here. We are users, promoters of their software, and industry innovators of how to do things. Where is the return of that dedication within Autodesk? I realize Autodesk has grown tremendously with all the purchases of Maya, Max, Softimage, not counting the innovative tools and software they have added to AutoCAD line. You cannot lose site of the forest because of the trees.

FYI the Forum Assistants (Moderators, basically) certainly do monitor the posts, however, we are not Autodesk employees and have only a little more access to Autodesk staff than anyone else here.
We are, and have been, trying very hard to get the problems sorted out, but there is only so much we can do - what we can, we are doing already and will continue to do.

perhaps autodesk should switch to using one of the popular forum systems instead of this custom made one? it might solve the problems faster.

I am not picking on you personally, but as a representative of Autodesk (via Administration/Moderation Status) you are the “Goto” person for all of us.
1. Why is it dysfunctional Tutorials, for example, aren’t deleted? Links, especially for tutorials or any other “Help”, are major contributors to the success of finding help. This is even more prevalent in the fact there were 2 recent posts stating that the links are dead. So if you are monitoring posts why is it that you have not responded to this thread? Otherwise it appears no one cares.
2. Why is it that Autodesk would have a site that even you, Steve, have limited access to the Staff at Autodesk? Isn’t this part of the support forums function?
3. Why would it be deemed acceptable to “Google” for threads/posts to find a particular piece of information from a member?
Please understand that this is NOT an attack on you but we, as members, have no other place to turn. These and many more are serious issues with the forum and attitudes within Autodesk in general.
I have owned and Administered forums before. I realize the undertaking that is involved with not only the maintenance but the total function of the forum. This is why I am not in that environment anymore; it eats up too much time and effort. Autodesk on the other hand is a Corporation that sells software and the support that is needed for that software. Area.Autodesk.com is part of that support scenario.
Thank you Steve for all you do. I realize you can only do what is allowed.

I wasn’t taking it personally ;-)
To reiterate, we are not employed by Autodesk, we do not get paid for moderating the forums and as such have very little access to real Autodesk staff. Those we do know about, and are in any sort of position to influence the maintenance of the site, we do contact. That’s as much as we can do.
We cannot help directly with any part of this site other than the forums. We have exactly zero “admin access” to Blogs, Tutorials or anything else - those parts of the site are not covered by our remit. We can pass on requests, but due to recent staff changes that is currently proving difficult at best.
I would suggest you try the “Send Feedback” link though I can’t guarantee that anyone is reading such feedback at present - I’ll try and find out.
I must also remind you that these are NOT support forums. These are peer-to-peer forums only, provided by Autodesk as a place where users can discuss issues related to the Autodesk products. If you want offical support there are other places to get it. See this post for one such place.
As for google, they haven’t been blocked from searching here so I would take that as implicit acceptance that the Area will be googled ;-)
