Hi guys,
Sorry i have been offline for a very long time, but school is having no mercy upon me/my class...all the homework quizzes, tests, exams...etc. i simply have no time to do any 3D, but about 2 weeks ago, i have been working on this model, at max for 30 mins every 2 days or so...so it is a very slow progress...anyway, your opinions and critiques would be appreciated

nice models, you could use the arch and design brass for the material, it would look pretty good on them…

There is a lot you can do with A&D and mapping to get really nice metals, not just perfect clean polished metals, but rough and dirty too. I particularly like mapping the glossiness to get an unpolished look. Use a bump map for scratches, use a blend material for dirt and corrosion.
See this thread on metals, and follow the links I posted in my first comment. The materials I posted there are more like stainless, not brass or lead, and may be a bit cleaner than you want, but looking at the setup may give you some ideas, and read the links to Zap’s blog. I if you take all that in and combine the techniques together you will be able to make any type of metal you like.

Wow, thanks a lot Samab, that really helped...especially about the “blend” part...here is the updated version
oh and i used 3Ds Max 2011 trial for the textures...the slate material editor is amazing!
The second picture shows the tree of the material...i did it from scratch :D
