Well I’ve been modeling in Maya for about a year, or around 300 total model hours with about 1,500 render hours. I’m Sixteen, never took a Maya class, and only skimmed through a few tutorials.

My Gallery is here: http://tastefulbarbarian.deviantart.com/ (That’s the stuff I’ve made in the past month)

I mostly figured stuff out in Maya by clicking until stuff worked, and I was wondering if this was good or not so good.

This is just the modeling side of stuff I’ve done, but I have made complex animations, large fluid simulations, higher level N-Cloth reactions, and just about everything there is to Maya. I don’t have anything online, but I have accomplished quite a bit, but comparatively have I?

Your 16, go outside… jeez.

Just find what you really like to do in the digital art world and concentrate on that when you get to college.(modeling, animating, etc)

IF your that worried about your skills ask your parents to enroll you in some online summer classes I guess.

I’m not worried about my skills at all, in fact, for my experience level I feel I’m doing quite exceptionally. I don’t think I’ll need digital college to further my animation skills, so I instead plan to major in a science area, learning the… Artistic side of things on my own. I was simply curious of how others would compare their progress. And I actually don’t spend much time doing things, like I said, 300 hours over a year is like… 3-4 Hours (combined) on the Weekends and 2-3 Hours (combined) on the Weekdays, which isn’t very much.

Dont listen to Andrew , dont go outside its bright and scarey

If you’d really like to further your skill you should look into traditional art in college, ie figure drawing , painting and animation production.  There are millions of 3d modelers and few 3d artist. Hand painting your own textures and drawing your own concepts in photoshop(or like program) will get you far in the field if thats your goal.
