Just a mish-mash of models I have collected, all jammed into the same scene. I’m gonna spend the next week or so trying different color schemes. There are still some raytrace and tessellation issues to resolve. But my main objective is to really just work the shading and lighting, and achieve a nice balanced scene. Just trying to create mood with color and light.

Opened up the blinds to let some sun in. Added Dali’s “Port of Cadaques” for artwork and sampled the image itself for the interior colors. Changed the table and chair hardware to DGS and resized the hardwood floor. Ii think the floor still needs some work but I’ll get to it next render. This one took 1 hour 25 min so I also need to get that time down.

I also need to get a handle on that floor lamp, hence the term “work in progress”

Honestly I don’t think the colors of the furniture match the rest of the scene…
(Just my opinion)

Only had time to work on the floor today. I had the spec mapped to the wrong channel. I dropped a Bot into the mix, and changed up the color. I’ll be the first to admit that the couch looks a bit “Emma & Julia” but I now like the hardwood.

This may take longer than I thought, like it always does in 3D.

Really nice modeling, texturing, and rendering.

In the first image...in my opinion, its quite dull...i mean it consists of dark colors, while in the second scene, i really liked it a lot. opposite to Longboarder1, i think the colors do match the scene.
In the last image...i like the idea of the robot sitting, and i like the texturing too...but the scene is too bright.

Just to clear things up, I meant the colors don’t match in the second scene.
The last one does look a little overexposed though.

You can blame that noob Salvador Dali for that 2nd color combination.

Picked up some hot spots on the sofa while trying to bring out better highlights on the furniture. I did manage to get the render time down to 23 min from an hour plus. Went to a darker floor and added brick just to see. Might stick with the brick for a bit. Anyone know of a good site for stone texture??

Nice, but you probably want a new brick texture, first of all I can see a gian seam in the gap to the right, and the texture looks a little flat.  Are you using a bump map?

Yes i agree with Longboarder1...the brick texture looks flat

The white walls were bouncing to many photons around so I just put a darker brick picture in to see if it would tone it down. There is no bump or specular maps yet. It seemed to work so I also went ahead and used a darker floor texture. There are 3 lights in the scene, an area light to the left and another one behind the camera.  Both are set up to emit photons and I’m rendering using mental ray and final gather.  There is a directional light aimed right into the floor to produce the sun rays.  I forgot that you can reuse the photon map so I think thats where I knocked off a big chunk of render time.

I removed the floor light that was on the right, but am setting up the hanging lights to produce light so I can utilize them for a night scene. The furniture on the left needs to be rebuilt and textured. Its a MeshFactory model but its all tris. I never have any luck with their models. I’ve also been thinking about adding some nCloth effects to simulate blowing curtains on the left side.

Thanks for your input. If anyone knows what produces those “hot spots” on the couch please feel free to share.
