I need your help guys, it seems that i cant find any tutorial for my experience. All tutorials i search for are either for experts, which means the tutorial is too complicated or too hard for me, or for beginners, which means something very easy to do and the basics for 3d max (such as texturing a box or modeling a cardboard box)...can anyone find me a tutorial which is suitable for my level?
Thanks

personally, I think that you are going about this the wrong way. How about breaking down what you want and use the skills you already have to model your own way. If you use planes as reference then all you do is that and box model along the way. If you want more detail then use patch modeling and take a look at Stop Staring By Jason Osipa who teaches you how to model for your needs when working your character or rig. I have borrowed it from the University Library and plan on having my own copy. But I think you are giving yourself too much of a headache

agree.. so far i could only see simple modeling (maybe it’s JUST me)..
and i couldn’t see a strong example for hdr.. that little sphere headed robot could be a good example.. it could make a realistic reflection..

In the robot thing scene, i didn’t put any hdr because if i did, it will look very weird, i mean it will be somehow invisible with it reflecting everything, so i did a method for creating nice reflections (this method is used by Florence Academy School...something like that :P )
(BTW Glyph, it true what you have said, i really dont know how to do such complex and nice modeling, all i do is simple modeling, that’s why i need some tutorials which are suitable for me, i don’t want a tutorial for modeling a car or a plane, i want something simple, like modeling a printer or a desk)
....anyway, here is what I’ve done so far, please feel free to comment. (its not such a professional scene or something i worked hard on, i wanted to tryout Radiosity*

old town scene is.. well.. some texturing are nice nice and some are not.. but i like your idea.. use more reference pics to have more details..
most human-made objects are very simple.. even a complex looking building is very easy to model.. the only problem is idea.. for me, with all these scenes you’ve made already shows that you’re ready to make your own models without tutorial.. use your imaginations and some reference pics.. use the scaling to avoid stretched models.. i’d prefer using metric scale…

Thanks for the tips.
I have a real weakness in texturing, maybe its because i cant find the appropriate texture for a certain model or object…
PS: I’m thinking of modeling a building, because i want to reveal my true modeling skills to myself, and all the people in this forum :coolsmirk: (but i don’t think i will have such nice results :P )
EDIT:
I don’t think every thing is going as planned!!!

Hey, if your’e not good at texturing, try to model a really great object, and render it with a plain white color to show it off.

yeah.. do a clay models.. model something good like a shoes maybe… apply only bump maps and some basic parameters.. make it looks like a real clay… google has a lot of example for reference..
and texturing isn’t necessarily have to use images.. you can even use combination of the parameters.. and max’s original textures can help a lot too.. dent for bump map of old metal, splat for opacity or bump, noise for diffuse or bump.. bla2…
simple texturing isn’t going to spoil a scene.. it’ll make it look like cartoon style.. you just need to control lighting and modeling. extreme texturing with bad rendering or modeling is the ones that will spoil the scene..
and i cant help with your script prob… since i’ve never tried to use any and completely ignored how does it worked.. xD
i feel sorry anyway.. sure someone will help you.. i hope.. cant wait to see your building..

Oh, ok Thank you all, i always thought texturing is the most important thing in 3d max....i will try in my future scenes to focus more on the environment and lightning than texturing (but that doesn’t mean i wont texture anything at all :P )
But i will do that all after my program is finally fixed, i don’t know why it happened, i never used max script, i don’t even know what it does!
