Actually, it is pretty easy.
first thing to do is to download the “.hdr” image, after that, assign it as your BG in max, then open the material editor and instance the BG image to an empty slot, then make it a spherical map. Scroll down to Output, and enable “Alpha from RGB” then increase the value until the image is bright enough.
That is the way i usually do it, i don’t know if there is another way...btw, i dont know the link to the tutorial i used.
But i know the link to the website that contains low quality HDRI images (usually used to create nice reflections for small things like teapots :P ) Click Here ---->by low quality i mean 1MB images
Download the Spherical ones as “.HDR”
And if you want high quality HDRI images, here are 2 links, one i found out my self, and the other that Samab gave me: http://www.hdri-locations.com/ AND http://www.openfootage.net/ --->by high quality i mean 192MB images
