In my opinion, it’s better for you to use displace instead of bump for the wall. Your have great improvement anyway. Great! :D

displace is a good idea too.. but it’ll take more time to render and may make your model bigger or smaller unexpectedly.. so dont overuse it..

focusing on texturing is important for making low poly models.. especially in gaming..
i know that i’m not good in texturing, so i focus mostly on lighting.. like my room test on the other topic, i didnt use any image at all..
and in my avatar, i used image for my texturing only for the floor.. others was made by using max’s defaults (like eyes..) and some photoshop paintings (bump map for lips).. =)

No problem. Displace is used for creating convex and concave shapes with a bump map (and normal map also? I am not sure). The major difference between bump and displace is bump will not affect the shapes of objects while displace does. Bump creates shading effects without modifying the shapes.

Displace SHOULD only be used sparingly, and to get the best results from either you need to know when to use it.  Bumps should be used for objects with a small amount of bumping happening.  Things like cracks, small wrinkles, things small like that.  Displace is used for big objects that might be viewed from the side.  One thing I have learned about displacement maps, is add lots of blur.  Or at least most of the time.  It may take you some time to get used to it, but it is a pretty important part to 3d.
