Fielding the off topic question; this should be interesting.
I use Autodesk 3DsMax 2010 and, long story short, a 3-D animation studio. But as far as art and artwork goes, it’s the bomb in many categories outside of 3-D. For example, say you want to do illustration: you can work from a 3-D scene that contains 3-D models, scenery, a camera, and lights to get a perspective on just about anything in the 3-D scene in any imaginative way. Then render a frame, et voila! Art!
Seriously, I think anything can be done using this program.
Now, a touch more subjective because you mention “illustrator” and “photoshop” in your query.
Adobe skewers the world of artistic expression with these two applications and any devotee to the production of outstanding artwork is well aware of just how great each of them is in their own right. I honestly believe there probably couldn’t be much more that is needed to output good artwork, just the like the pros, if you’ve got some talent worth developing, and you ownn these three applications.
... and After Effects
Make that four things!
