| How Big is Animation Industry?
|
|
|
Hi Guys,
I am planning to make a presentation on Animation Industry to a couple of important folks and was wondering if someone out there can help me with info on the same.
Primarily, I am looking at the scale and size of Animation Industry, penetration of the same into various fields including (and not limiting to) media, entertainment, medicine, construction etc.
Also what kind of spends are made specific to animation by these industries. For example, do we know how much Hollywood spends annually exclusively for the 3D part in the movies? How does this translate in $$ terms and as a percentage to the overall spend?
Any info, reference to a web site, study, papers submitted would be welcome.
Would be good to know how big our own industry is and how much spread our guys have so far.
Regards,
GP

You’re asking a very hard question and I’m pretty positive that it’s impossible to answer…
Nevertheless, I’d start out by talking to the higher-ups in each industry where your questions may apply as we’re just a bunch of artists here and not accountants.
Good luck!

Hi,
thanks for the response and your opinions on the above. Personally, I think gathering this detail might be ‘difficult’ but definitely not impossible. Frankly, I am not looking at the exact figures down to the last cent, but a ballpark number of what kind of money this industry is sharing. And that Is the reason for posting it on these sites so that everyone who has an idea can contribute to piece together a bigger picture.
Though I am an artist myself, I would be definitely interested in where the industry is heading (meaning where the dollars are going), so that it helps me in moving in that direction too. If you cant beat them (ie., create a demand yourself), join them. Right!!!

Sounds like you are looking for a complete market analysis. Here’s a link to one available but it’s $5k
http://www.marketresearch.com/pr...g=1&curr=USD&kw=&view=toc
There was a Canadian firm years ago who did somethign similar but they charged less than $1k - can’t remember who the outfit was though.

WOW!!! This is mind blowing. From the contents, it is clear that the research has been extensive. Thanks John for the link. At $5k, its expensive, though. Would help if I can have the Canadian firms research link also.
Thanks once again for the link.

Found it - Roncarelli Report
http://www.pixelnews.com/
Looks like the last report that can be purchased is from 2006 though for $2295
The executive summary is probably all you would need and it’s only $250
It was fine and sufficient for business plan/investor purposes back in 2001 - can’t speak to it’s accuracy these days and they might even be out of business and just keep the website going (no updates since 2006 report)? Or maybe i dug up a bad link?

Yes. You are right. The exec summary is all I would need at the moment and if required the 2008 report by Research N Markets can come handy at the real time. Only concern as you mentioned is if the site is still live as I also do not see any recent updates by them.
Let me investigate on this further. Thanks for the response. This was really helpful.
