So I’m planning on getting a computer and was wondering if any one has used the new intel i7 processor with any of the autodesk softwares? also does anyone know if 2 videocards are better than one, i mean is 2 GeForce 9800 GTX 512MB DDR3 better than 1 e-GeForce GTX 280 1GB GDDR3? thanks in advance.

*Someone please correct me on this one if I’m way off:
3D software does not (currently) take advantage of an SLI setup; it’s still a gaming oriented technology at this point.

didn’t know that. Thanks.  does anyone know if autodesk will take advantage of SLI within the avg. life time of a computer?

I need to backup and correct my previous statement, the nVidia Quadroplex ‘does’ use SLI technology (until now I thought it was using some other obscure technology to split the workload). I’ve yet to actually chat with anyone that’s utlized it with Maya unfortunetly, and with a cost of over $10,000, most of us will probably be sticking with off-the-shelf cards.

At any rate - I’d recommend you go with the fastest ‘single’ card you can get…

*update
I recently spoke with a Quadroplex vendor - who told me that it won’t run 3D applications like Maya - that it’s used mostly for incredibly large display outputs (theatre style project).

well thanks n8skow. i’ll keep that in mind. and the 10,000 dollars ha-haha. i don’t plan on the whole computer costing more than 2,500.
