So I bought a VGA splitter because I thought thats what I needed. but all it does is show the same thing on two monitors, and the display settings is not detecting a second monitor. its acting as if I only have 1 plugged in. Is there any way to get 2 monitors working with a VGA splitter or am I screwed?
and if so, is there some sort of adapter i can buy that will let me get dual monitors working so I get extra screen space and not just a copy of the same desktop?
=(

Windows 7, ATI radeon.

ok I think I figured it out. I bought a display port to VGA converter. will test it when it arrives.

My video card has two DVI display connectors, so I plug in each monitor to the card directly.

Is setting up dual monitors applicable to a laptop as well? Thanks.
