Hey guys,

Im just getting started in 3d design, I’ve done tons of 2d. I am looking to buy autodesk software and am not sure exactly what I need.  Eventually I am looking into doing some game design, what software should I get? I am pretty sure I need 3ds Max but is motion builder, imagemodeler, ect. a good decision.

Thanks in advance

IMO first you need to learn basic modeling and texturing. After that you could consider animation and game develop.
My advice is first choose a low price app to start.
1 step: Use Silo and 3D-Coat to learn modeling and texturing.
2 step: Once you master basic modeling and texturing, then you could buy 3ds Max to start animation.
3 step: Choose a game engine, for example Unity 3D.

My 2 cents.

I have done some stuff before so I under stand the concepts but I agree that I should start out learning the basics on a cheap program. About the game engine, my friend has been building one for a while, but ran into some problems; how much does the unity 3d engine cost and what are its terms of use? Thanks for the advice
