Hi, I am currently in my second year of university in the UK studying Animation and Special effects and wanting to try and get some work over the summer (paid or unpaid) just any sort of experience in modelling and animating. I know 3DS ok and am just starting to learn Maya so would defiantly be classed as a beginner. I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction of where to apply for, as my uni only really helps out with work experience if your wanting to take a full year out and work in the industry. I am only wanting to work for a month or 2 in summer because I want to go on to do a post grad course after this one. If anyone has any advice or can point me in the right direction would be much appreciated.  Thanks. J

Work on particle systems in Maya after you finish doing the basics of it, they’re really good for visual effects so that even after your summer holidays if you go to any job you can show off your talent with these visual effects!
Read Maya documentation for that…

For internships - surely your instructor has some information regarding this?

Not real familiar with all the visual effects houses in the UK (maybe Framestore, The Mill, The Foundry), but Google should give you several leeds on contacting these types of companies.
