I’ve read about a workaround that sometimes works for me:
1- go to 1 viewport (alt-W)
2- set top view (T)
3- go to wireframe mode (F3)
4- open tha catmotion panel.
Haha...thanks...it does the trick...!!!!!!
for me no other solution was working...i never had so much trouble since the last
update...OMG
thanks again
Tommy

This bug is what led to my Short Story About CAT. If this works every time… I may have to kiss you for the steps… though AD still needs to just fix this and the other CAT problems. Maybe in v2012…

Dang, none of the mentioned funnyfixes work.
I have a character that has many ABS animation layers and a CATmotion walkcycle layer in the middle. Can’t access the CATmotion panel anymore without the freeze, so I guess my character is stuck with the walk he has, unless I do a complete rework on the characters layers.
Boy am I glad that I decided during installation not to need the 32bit version anymore :)

I’ve been testing CAT in Max32 to see if it’s any more stable. So far CAT Motion has been trouble free. Although some other CAT related problems remain.
So you could consider a vanilla Max32 install, just to complete your CAT anim work. Once done you can load the file back into Max64 for any other work and rendering.

Hi everyone. I was having a problem with max locking up as soon as I clicked the CAT motion editor in x64 2011, like others I opened up the file in 32bit max and the problem is solved.

In x64 CAT seems a lot more stable when you turn off the skinned mesh and just look at the rig.
With the mesh on I cant import motions at all, with the mesh off I dont have any problems.
Maybe this will help someone.
