Hello everyone.

I have been asked by my lead to try and find out some workflow or fix around some general CAT problems. I would be glad if you guys could help me.

Basically we are evaluating CAT over CS(Character Studio).

1.  IK System.

You can make your hand follow the side of your head easily but you need a layer for it and you need to Link constrain your IK-Target, doing it once isn’t a problem, but every time you need to change the location you need another layer and another Link constraint.  Picture this on a 1000 frame animation with contextual movement on two characters, it would take a while for it to be done. Is there a better workflow for this?

2.  Switching between IK and FK.

Switching an arm between IK and FK makes it rotate wildly and very hard to correct. Is there a way to not make it flail wildly or are we doing something wrong?

3.  Making none gliding feet.

Making feet not glide is equally as hard as making a IK target, but added difficulty you need to add a layer per step in order to make the feet not glide. You could animate a IK-Target, but you can already do similar in Biped. Is this the same issue as #1?

4.  Importing Biped.

When loading a BIP file, it needs to load a Biped Character, and if the Biped character does not have the same scale as the CAT rig, it will make the CAT animation look like its crouching down. To add even more, it needs to bake over the animations onto the CAT rig, not preferable if you have more than 2000frames of animation. Sometimes we have even 10000 frames, is there a way to convert *.bip to more CAT friendly files in a batch?

5.  Too many layers.

In the end you need several layers, and they all need to get evaluated when you hit around 10-20 or so it is time to bake down the layers for performance and you lose the Layer control you previously had and you need to set the layers up again in order to make those changes. Is this a general performance issue?

6.  Mixing Animations

You can mix animations in a dopesheet like view, but the animation names are not listed unless you write them down yourself and it is much harder to edit frames in such a way in CAT. Is there another way to edit them much more like you do in CS?

Thank you for your time and your answers!
