I am trying to identify what is causing the knees to bend backwards when adding a standard CAT Motion layer (walk cycle).

In the first 2 images, you can see the character in standard pose.

The third image shows the issue with then knees.

In addition, I would love some feedback on whether or not my bones are setup properly. Like proper ankle placement, etc…

Thanks in advance…

there is really no need to post images that large 640 by 480 will do. if you have a slight bend in the knee during setup. you can also adjust it with catmotion or use a local layer and rotate the lower leg forward

I didn’t mean to post images that big ... i wanted to make sure people could see but that is a bit too much lol…

I realize, I can adjust the knees in a layer but I would like to know why on this rig, they bend backwards?

It would also help if you attached the images rather than linking to them - links have a habit of dying (leaving a thread with no images) and attached images are displayed at a “preview” size which doesn’t screw up the page formatting.

you seem to have a bend in the knee in setup. so it may be the catmotion settings. you can adjust knee bend the pelvis or foot bend the leg lift. there are a few different ways to correct it in catmotion

with the base human the foot is the ankle

My knees in setup are slightly bent forward which is what I thought was good practice for T-pose. I was lead to believe that if knees were setup straight that it could confuse CAT and get them to bend backwards like mine are doing.

I didn’t rotate the pelvis or knees in the setup so I don’t get why they are bending backwards (which would be painful).

Again, I realize I can correct this issue with Local adjustment layer but I just don’t get why this rig is doing this whereas others were not before.

In procedural motion settings (the small window for tweaking the cycle), go to PelvisGroup, Legs, KneeAngle and using the second offset spinner from left move the whole curve up. This should help.
