I have been quite busy in the last months but I have a little bit more free time now and will visit this forum more frequently. I have plans to fill my free time of course. ;-) It's all about new CAT tutorials. It's not yet fixed in which form they will appear. This is a question up to you and it's the main reason why I opened this thread. So here we go. 1. Do you prefer written or video tutorials or both? 2. Do you wish beginner tutorials or advanced tutorials or a mixture between both? 3. Do you want to have tutorials about general functionality of CAT or more practical-oriented tutorials? 4. Do you need more rigging or animation knowledge? 5. Do you have any special wishes or ideas that you would like to be covered? Thank you all! 2012-05-23T01:22:31+02:00 IK/FX Switch keyframes not showing at the timeslide bar? http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-3ds-max/3ds-max-cat/ikfx-switch-keyframes-not-showing-at-the-timeslide-bar/page-last/ http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-3ds-max/3ds-max-cat/ikfx-switch-keyframes-not-showing-at-the-timeslide-bar/page-last/#When:01:04:44Z IK/FX Switch keyframes not showing at the timeslide bar. I am changing timing always at the timeslide bar.but IK/FX switch keyframes are not at the timeslider. I can just see only Curve Editor. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. 2012-05-23T01:04:44+02:00 [BUG]Error on Joint Limits Rotation at CAT 3.3 and later http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-3ds-max/3ds-max-cat/bugerror-on-joint-limits-rotation-at-cat-33-and-later/page-last/ http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-3ds-max/3ds-max-cat/bugerror-on-joint-limits-rotation-at-cat-33-and-later/page-last/#When:05:52:18Z This BUG doesn’t appear until CAT 3.3. When I set Joint Limits Rotation at Hierarchy Panel, the bone before (and at) cat 3.2 will Limits it’s Rotation correct, up to up value, down to down value. but at cat 3.3 and later, the bone will limit to a strange way, It seems that it will compare the up value and down value, choose the min one, then both Limits up and down to it. for example, set limit from -120 to 30. at cat 3.3 and later, the bone will limit from -30 to 30. 2012-05-17T05:52:18+02:00 CAT bones driven by wiring parameters don't animate http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-3ds-max/3ds-max-cat/cat-bones-driven-by-wiring-parameters-dont-animate/page-last/ http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-3ds-max/3ds-max-cat/cat-bones-driven-by-wiring-parameters-dont-animate/page-last/#When:18:11:45Z Well, they do animate, but on playback/scrubbing they don't update. I've built a reverse foot rig out of CAT bones, and after wiring everything up to some custom attributes, the CAT bones won't update after being animated by my sliders. I've added the custom attributes with the 'Add Extra Controller' option to the foot control, so the custom attributes are saved with the anim layer, but still no dice. Am I missing something, or has anyone else run into this? Is this just an issue with CAT? I've notice other issues similar to this and I've gotten around them with Position/Orientation constraints, but I don't have a workout for the wiring issue. Seems related to this: http://www.the-area.com/forum/autodesk-3ds-max/3ds-max-cat/cat-linking-bug-in-2011/ UPDATE: It appears that if the foot control with the custom attributes is animated, the CAT bones animated with the sliders using custom attributes will also update on playback/scrubbing. Definitely seems like a bug with CAT... 2012-05-05T18:11:45+02:00 strange Key frame http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-3ds-max/3ds-max-cat/strange-key-frame/page-last/ http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-3ds-max/3ds-max-cat/strange-key-frame/page-last/#When:05:58:06Z Hi, Sometimes if i rotate some Bone for example the "Ribcage" i get strange Key frames. But i dont know why. If Keyframe on frame 8 the animation will start on frame 0 until frame 8 and then i get some key frame what looks like a normal key frame in the time line but it have only the half size. If i keyframe something on frame 9 the animation will start on frame 0 until frame 9 but the key frame look normal. Please look at the attachment may be you know what i mean. 2012-05-04T05:58:06+02:00 CAT Knee popping http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-3ds-max/3ds-max-cat/2-cat-knee-popping/page-last/ http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-3ds-max/3ds-max-cat/2-cat-knee-popping/page-last/#When:00:08:39Z I'm altering a walk cycle after creating a CATMotion Layer, and every time the character takes a step the knees bend inward (looking at the front view), causing a "popping" effect. If I raise the pelvis along the Y axis, the model is on its tip-toes when it walks and fixes the problem, but obviously that's not the ideal solution. Any thoughts? Thanks! 2012-05-04T00:08:39+02:00 CAT looping animation http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-3ds-max/3ds-max-cat/cat-looping-animation/page-last/ http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-3ds-max/3ds-max-cat/cat-looping-animation/page-last/#When:23:32:36Z trying to loop game character walk cycle which i made with cat tried shifting and dragging first key to the last animation still wont loop any help at all will be appreciated thanks 2012-05-03T23:32:36+02:00 Problem with bhv files on Cat rig http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-3ds-max/3ds-max-cat/problem-with-bhv-files-on-cat-rig/page-last/ http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-3ds-max/3ds-max-cat/problem-with-bhv-files-on-cat-rig/page-last/#When:04:54:56Z Hi there, I habe some problems so load some bvh motioncapture files on my Cat rig. It is possible so load the animation bug when i try so map the bones from the Target CatRig to the Source node i get some "-- Unknown system exception" i habe tryed max 2011 and 2012 The two dance animations are atteched maybe you can tell me some kind of workaround. thanks 2012-05-03T04:54:56+02:00 Differences between CAT arms and legs? http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-3ds-max/3ds-max-cat/differences-between-cat-arms-and-legs/page-last/ http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-3ds-max/3ds-max-cat/differences-between-cat-arms-and-legs/page-last/#When:07:13:48Z In Max 2012 and 2013, there is a bug with applying Additive To Setup Pose to a foot. (Whenever you add an Animation Layer, the feet change orientation from their setup mode.) However, this bug does not apply to hands. I'm trying to work out the underlying differences between Arms and Legs. I'll gladly use an arm in place of a leg if it gets around this bug, but I don't want to run into unintended consequences. As far as I can tell, the difference is purely in how the platform or IK Target is associated with the ankle/palm node. Also, I've noticed that arms have their Retargeting Vector set to "Limb to IKTarget" and legs have their's set to "World Z Axis" (this is under the Link Info, Limb Hierarchy rollout). But I haven't found any documentation on these settings. Lastly, when comparing the XML of a .rig file I've noticed some slight differences in the Flags for the Palm vs the Ankle. E.g. Palm { BoneName = "Ankle" Flags = 234883120 Controller { SetupTM = matrix 0.877583 0.479426 -0 -0.479426 0.877583 0 0 -0 1 0 0 0 Flags = 141557760 } ... -vs- Palm { BoneName = "Palm" Flags = 234881328 Controller { SetupTM = matrix 0.877583 0.479426 -0 -0.479426 0.877583 0 0 -0 1 0 0 0 Flags = 141557760 } ... Notice the difference in the Flags values. I'm not 100% sure what those flags correspond to. Some of them change when I check on or off different options in the Link Info section, but I haven't yet figured out what the various values signify. Has anyone else looked into this? So to summarize my post, has anyone run into a situation where you HAVE to use legs? As of now, it appears that arms are more stable. 2012-04-30T07:13:48+02:00
