hi, iv been using 3d max 9 for ages on my dual core intel imac with no problem, but today iv come to use it and it doesn’t get passed the initial loading screen.  i click the icon, the auto-desk load screen appears with all the writing going across the bottom as it initiates everything, then it disappears and nothing happens, normally it would disappear for a second and then the opening window of max would appear.  please please help, im currently modeling to a deadline and i really need to fix this.  please.

Find the 3dsmax.ini file, and move it from that location to a temp location.  By default, it should be in your User Profile.  Should be somewhere like so:

\Documents and Settings\YOU\Local Settings\Application Data\Autodesk\3dsmax\9 - 32bit\enu

Try restarting Max.  If that fixes it, then a setting in the old file was causing the load.

If that doesn’t work, try changing the graphics settings by using Start, Programs, Autodesk, 3dsmax9, change graphics mode.  In the dialog, choose software or something else, try all of them to see if something in your drivers or hardware is the issue.

Report back if any of that solved the issue so we can see if something else is the problem.

Good luck.

Okay, I have same problem and none of these two solutions helped me.
When i moved .ini file, it simply created new one when i started max again.
Splash screen appears, plug-ins are loaded, splash screen disappears and
main program window never appear.
When i try change graphic mode, same thing happens.

Max worked fine before this.
I didn’t mess with setting or something like that.

I have XP with sp2 installed.
I have disabled anti-virus when i reinstalled max.

Please help me. :(

Start > Run and enter “eventvwr.msc /s” in the entry field (without the quotes). Anything obvious in there?

maybe something like this?

The description for Event ID ( 3 ) in Source ( RaySat_3dsmax9_32 Server ) cannot be found. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. Check that your firewall isn’t blocking Max or the MR service.

Have you run a registry cleaner recently? If so it may have cleaned more than you expected.

Maybe a simple uninstall-reinstall of max will cure it?

I only have windows firewall, and max is in exceptions.
I have disabled it and ran max, but no luck.

I don’t use reg cleaners.

And i tried reinstalling max twice (and deleting all files left),
same error.

Thanks for help, i guess i will have to reinstall windows… :(

Before you do that, maybe one of these will help:
