I am hoping someone can help me. I am a new 3ds user of 2008 on Win XP. I am trying to render in a project and I continue to getr a message telling me that the application has run out of memory. 3ds Max is the only foreground applicatio running at the time this occurs. My machine has 2.5 Gig of physical ram and when I monitor the activity prior to the lock up I never witness total memory used exceeding 1.3 Gig. Am I missing something here? Does anyone have a suggestion on how to get around this problem?
Thanks!

Depends on what your rendering. Do you have millions of polys in your scene?

No - I am in the beginning stages of using the application as part of a 3D modeling class and I am working with very simple shapes as part of a scene.

Arent you supposed to have an even amount of physical ram sticks? Do you have 4 sticks or three installed? Im wondering because you said you have 2.5 Gigs.

Syndicate, not all computers require matched pairs of RAM. Even if his does, two 1GB and two 256MB sticks would give him 2.5GB total.
What is the pagefile set to? It may need to be increased, at least 2GB is what I’d recommend. And I’ve always set the min and max as the same amount, because Max has been known to crash while Windows tries to increase the virutal memory.
