I am running 3ds MAX 2008 on an XP Pro machine, with 3 gigs of RAM, Intel Core Duo 2.4gig....enough machine to handle 3ds MAX (please tell me otherwise).
My issue is with text. I am trying to render out some 3d text for a project but every time I start changing the text’s parameters, or any of the parameters for the modifers (just bevel for now), 3ds MAX grinds to a halt. Task Manager says it is not responding then after a minute or two it starts responding again. I go to change another parameter after it settles down...same thing again.
Now, if I move my camera, orbit around the text in the view port, move the actual text object, rotate, etc...It responds just fine.
I am hoping there is a simple explanation for this. *fingers crossed*
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
As you said, you are beveling the text, which can be a complex and slow process. When you need to edit the text or it’s parameters, select Text in the stack and turn off the “Show End Result” option, which is a little button just below the modifier stack list. Turn that option back on, or click on the top of the stack, or go to another task, to get your Bevel back.
Good luck!

Thanks. I will try that. I am thinking my machine & software know sweeps start in two days & they are plotting against me. ;)

OK....yesterday 3ds MAX ran just fine. No text issues. Not slow. It operated as usual & even rendered my projects pretty quickly.
Today it is running like crap again. now every time I change a the view in the vp or change any parameter, down to moving the play head on the time line it locks up like it was doing on my text on Monday.
Is there anything I should try before uninstalling/reinstalling 3ds MAX?
Once again....thanks in advance!

Check the Task Manager and see if there is anything else is running and using CPU when you are having issues. I can’t see re-installing helping with anything. Shut down any other applications that might be using up DirectX resources.
