So I decided to finally get 3ds Max. Only problem is, when running it, I get the error message “The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click OK to terminate the application”. So i browsed around a bit, and found out that another guy had the same problem, and solved it by running it as administrator. I tried this, and although I don’t get any error message, the only thing happening is the 3ds Max startup screen appearing (Attatched file) and then it just shuts down without any indication of any error what so ever. I’m running Windows Vista ultimate 64.
Thanks in advance!

If you just bought Max you should have Max 2009, not Max 9.
Max 9 came out in about October of 2006.
However, if you are running Max 9 on a Vista machine you will need to install Service Pack2 from what I remember.
Sp2 updates Max 9 for Vista compatibility.

How did you even get Max 9? It isn’t selling anymore...and you should always check if the software you are buying is compatible with your OS, since Max 9 isn’t compatible with Vista.

And SP2 adds Vista Compatibility.

Good Luck! :)

I have no idea from where I got it, I bought it through my dad, I think he got it off Amazon or something like that. Is the new version a lot better and is it possible to upgrade?

Older versions of Max cannot be sold, except under defined guidelines such as a company going out of business
or the death of the original owner, pretty stringent guidelines. So, you cannot be sure your copy can be upgraded with Autodesk
without contacting them. Hopefully, you didn’t get taken by someone who decided they could sell their copy (license) without
the recognized (by Autodesk) right.

Mmmm… A lot of people have many different opinions on this. For me Max 9 is wonderful, there are only a couple reasons I would like to upgrade to Max 2009

Dual-Core support for hair and fur rendering
Updated version of Hair and Fur
Mental Ray upgrades

Oo don’t say that, I’m about to sell my current system and build a spanking new dual quad core workstation using vista x 64 ultimate with of course max 2009! Wish I had kept my subscription going :(
Vista is supposed to be open ended but check first that you have the right to use this software otherwise problems will occour.
