I am new to creating materials. I want to create a good aluminum procedural material for mental ray. The look I’m going for? Pretend that an aluminum can has no printing on it.

Any advice? I am stiking out on my own!

TIA!!

Hi Dean,

Try A&D.  The new one that comes with MAX 2008 has been improved a lot.

You can even view your lighting in viewport which is nice to anticipate your settings.

Semicolon,

Thanks for the reply. I am aware that that is probably the “base” I should use to start the material. However...I am very inexperienced in creating materials from scratch.

Any details as to ho to approach it would be great!

Hi Dean,

Then please take a look in your help and tutorial file.  There are step by step in creating the materials.

BTW, is your system 2003 or XP?  I saw your wrote “XP 2003 x64 SP2”.
