i know this is (or was...) a known max problem in the past, but i’m getting it again.
one minute i’m rendering fine on all 8 cores, the next time i hit render i’m down to one core - the only solution seems to be shut down viz and start again and it’ll be fine (for a while...)
this used to happen all the time on my old dual xeon workstation but i could set the affinity in task manager - now i can’t even do that! (access denied, although i am admin...think that’s a vista issue though)
just wondered if anybody else was having similar problems?
cheers!

Might get a better response if posted in the Viz section here.

going by the fact that this was previously an issue that affected both viz AND max, i’d rather it stayed here - it’s more likely to get seen and a solution found.
thanks.

Never used Viz but I’ve never has the problem with Max,
it’s always without fail used all available processors whether 2 or 4 cores on each render.
Now this could be an 8 core issue of which I have no experience.
As for setting affinity in Task Manager all the cores are already selected in relation to Max so no need to change that.
If you are having trouble with doing tasks in Vista even with admin rights you might try turning off the User Account Control which controls the annoying message dialogs that continually asks if you want to do something or if you are the one who is making this request. This selector is found in Control Panel/Security Center/User Account Control. If that doesn’t help there may be some other things you can try.
