Ken stated clearly that they NEVER announce hotfixes and it’s your (the customers) job to check regularly for updates.
I guess they fear some bashing if such a propagated update would break some other previously working things.
Especially in larger facilities, where the update-rollout causes more work and planning, such announcements could be interpreted as advice to install…

Josef,

What you say may be true, but that excuse doesn’t hold much water, IMO. It is analogous to an automobile manufacturer saying you have to check with them periodically to see if there are any recalls. Of course, no personal safety issues are at stake. But what I’m saying is that, IMO, it shouldn’t be up to the user to figure out that there is a fix for broken software.

To be honest, in the situation I was in when I was unable to make an outline, I honestly thought “I” was doing something wrong, as it is rare that I make outlines at all. It would have been great to have received a notice that this “was” an issue and had been remedied.

I am not going to go off on a rant on Autodesks decision to handle the matter in this manner. What gets my goat is that as a “Subscription” holder, I thought I had entered into a closer working relationship with my software creator where I pay extra for the security of knowing we are getting the latest and greatest as well as the best support from the company. I don’t like the fact that, given that there is a fix for a known software issue, my “partner” holds back on that knowledge and waits to see if I notice there is a fix.

We all know software has bugs. That is not the issue. But with this climate of disclosure, do I need to go to the hotfix page every time something doesn’t work right in hopes of finding a fix? Imagine how frustrating THAT would be!

i completly agree with everything you said in your post - i already spent my “rant"-energy about exact this issue in Ken’s Blog and a thread on cgtalk.for the time being i accept things as they are—and stopped complaining - but again - every thing you said is totally true and well spoken. I would recommend to post this on Ken’s blog too - cause i think he doesn’t stop by here and never posts here as far i remember

here is a link to his most recent blog entry

That was very well said of Graham Calhoun, Thank You Graham.  As a Subscription person myself, I agree with you.  I’m even somewhat scared of the Hotfixes and updates (Productivity Booster memories and my lower IQ), -anytime I can find user feedback about them is great (Thank You Max Users!).  I support Autodesk, and certainly respect them, so I don’t mean this to be a rant / attack against Autodesk in any way (I am guilty of sometimes poking fun at Autodesk on some issues.  Forgive me Autodesk, I luvs ya! :) ).

And, as always, very well said of Josef Wienerroither.  <-- Very Intelligent person (and Talented)!  Thank you!

Perfect.  I assume this fixes File Linking an ACA 2008 dwg into Max 2008.  I recently upgraded upon file linking my dwgs, all of my AEC objects disappeared...Weird..Installing now.

I’ve tried installing this hotfix because suddenly our linked ACAD files are scrambled upon reloading them.
Windows XP Pro tells me this installation package could not be opened.
I’ve emailed Autodesk, but haven’t hearc back yet.
Has anyone else had issues with this msp?
If it has worked, what did you do to install it?
