please help !!
during rendering with mental ray max2008 crashed and since then my arch & design (mi) materials dont work anymore :
i can choose the templates from the list, but only the first three work (matte, pearl and gloss finish). all the other templates do not update the material in the material browser or in the rendering.

has this ever happended to someone else?
how can i get the arch & design materials back?

Hi,

The first few, and the last two, merely change settings.  The others are materials.

Copy the material libraries from your “3ds max 2008\materiallibraries\” folder into the ‘\materiallibraries’ folder of the project folder you are using.  If you accidently overwrote the material library and it doesn’t have the correct materials, then we can send you a copy....

It has also happened to me where I accidentally wrote over the Arch & Design mat. messing up my templates.  Check your file in the max 2008 materials folder.  The file should be in the 200K’s, if it’s less then you will need a new one.

Tip: to keep this from happening, after installing max 2008, check the properties on you material file and check box “Read Only” so it can’t be written over.

yes, seems my mrArch_DesignTemplates.mat has been overwritten, its only 32k.

I have a problem whith that to, the materials seems black, and dot changes, it is classified “incompatible”, and don’t works, I saw the materials library, and the achieve mrArch_DesiginTemplates have more than 200kb, why the material don’t works?

the above solution worked fine for me, got the mr-materials back.
if you need the original mat library, i can send it to you....
