| chamfer edge kills max9rev3
|
|
|
It does so, if the edge ends in a vertex that is touched by 3 or more polys and is open to one side.
you can reproduce this easily, if you
- create a 3 by 1 plane,
- convert it to an edit poly,
- weld 2 of the vertices in the middle on one side
- and then try to chamfer any of the edges touching the resulting vertex.
it works fine as edit mesh and on workstations with no productivity boost installed but max crashes every time with rev 3.
workstation is:
Intel Quad Q6600
4GB RAM
Geforce 8800 GTS 320MB
XP Pro x64
3ds Max 9 - 64 bits (and 32-bit) with productivity boost
I’m sorry if this reported before, but I couldn’t find any thread regarding this problem.
Are there any fixes other than to do a clean reinstall of max or using edit mesh?
thanks,
Sebastian.

Works fine here without the Prod Booster.
Max9-32 (SP2).
Unless you need something provided by the PB I would be tempted to re-install without it. Reinstall is necessary because there’s no uninstall for the PB.
Note that it also works in Max2008 (32 bit) so maybe upgrading would be an option?

Hey there,
thanks for your answer. But the problem only occurs with the booster, and besides I actually meant one of the other edges. ;-)
Anyway, have 2008 lying around already. Wasn’t installing it yet, only because I was pretty stressed out with my current project and wasn’t to keen on switching tools before being finished. But will probably do that on the weekend.

Still works here (and 2008) with the other edge. This points fairly conclusively to the PB being the cause.
You’re quite right not to risk changing to 2008 mid-project - just drop to an editable mesh to do your chamfering then back to e-poly afterwards.
Remember that you can have 9 and 2008 installed on the same machine - that way you can phase in it’s use (2008 I mean).
There’s not much point reporting it as a problem with 9 now that 2008 is released - I doubt there will be any further fixes released for 9.

Hi guys, not sure weather it is caused by the service pack or not but you can solve it this way. Blast the 3dsmax.ini file and let max recreate it at start up. I had a massive problem with not being able to move an edge AT ALL before max would crash out. This drove me nuts, but finally found that blasting the ini file fixed it. Hope it helps cheers jimmy
